About Us
We are a small group of Hoosiers with family roots that date back to the 1800’s. Our concern is the state-sponsored intrusion of religion into our daily lives under the name of God — specifically, no fee for In God We Trust license plates.
Some of us are regular church-going Christians. Along with our deep respect for the separation of church and state, we think that slapping God on an official license plate is about as reverent as using a cathedral for a parking lot. Scripture is full of warnings against this kind of empty, look-at-me piety.
A license plate is an identification tag for a vehicle. Period. Over the last couple of decades, states have determined that specialty plates are a good way to make extra money. This is largely thanks to modern plate manufacturing technology. Plates are no longer metal stampings, but high-tech reflective adhesive stickers that are easily printed.
Our primary purpose is to raise awareness among our fellow Hoosiers — those who haven’t even thought about the implications of these no-fee, political statements that actually take God’s name in vain, and those who, like us, know the plates are wrong and who go into a slow boil every time we pull up behind one.
We are not affiliated with the Indiana Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
